This thesis deals with the ground stabilizing effects of vegetation. The literature search was focused on the enhancement of the soil shear strength. Thus roots can, dependent on root content and the branching of the roots, increase the shear strength up to 50 % compared to bare soil. But this enhancement has not been explained exactly yet. To quantify the influence of the vegetation a lot of models have been developed, but there is still some work to do. At the moment the results of different authors are not comparable, therefore a standardization of test methods should be aimed. The effort of the future research work should preferable result in a simple model, which can calculate the stability of the rooted soil as precisely as possible.
